A1 selects Nokia to expand 5G network in Austria

A1 has selected Nokia to expand 5G mobile network in Austria.
Nokia 5G base stationNokia is already supporting A1for its 3G and 4G mobile networks and Austria’s largest fiber-optic network.

Nokia will supply its 5G radio access and cloud-native 5G core technology to AI. Telecom engineers at A1 will ensure high-performance service and excellent user experience over wireless, fixed or converged networks.

A1 CEO Marcus Grausam said: “We rely on a trusted and long-standing partner with whom we have already implemented numerous major projects.”

A1 has presented 5G applications for industry and implemented campus network for Vienna Airport. A1 and Nokia conducted data transfers on the Network in Gmund, the first 5G city in Austria, in January 2019, said Peter Wukowits, head of Nokia Austria.

A1 Telekom Austria said its capital expenditures increased 4.6 percent to EUR 771 million in 2018, mainly driven by investments in the fiber rollout and the data center in Austria.

A1 Telekom Austria is planning a Capex EUR 770 million in 2019.

A1 Telekom Austria revenue increased 3.1 percent in Q4 2018 driven primarily by higher service revenues from both fixed-line and mobile.

The total mobile subscriber base of A1 Telekom Austria Group rose 1.7 percent as the growth in M2M subscribers as well as growth in Croatia, Austria, the Republic of Serbia and Belarus was able to offset the declining subscriber numbers in the other segments.
