Bharti may set up 5G equipment manufacturing facility

Bharti Enterprises has expressed interest in setting up 5G equipment manufacturing facility in Karnataka, India.

Bharti Airtel is the number two telecom operator in India in terms of mobile phone users on its 2G, 3G and 4G networks. Bharti Airtel will be launching its 5G services once India starts selling 5G spectrum for commercial purpose.

Rakesh Bharti Mittal, vice chairman of Bharti Enterprises, interacting with Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa said the company is interested in setting up the manufacturing facility for making 5G network and is also setting up telecom manufacturing components in Karnataka.

Yediyurappa said that Karnataka had recently announced the New Industry Policy with a special emphasis to make the State an integral part of the global supply chain across industry sectors, according to media reports.

“The policy emphasises on advanced manufacturing, R&D and innovation and builds-up on Karnataka’s leadership position in the field of Innovation where we ranked No.1 in the country,” he added.

Recently, Reliance Jio, the number one telecom operator, announced that it will make its own 5G network equipment in partnership with chipset major Qualcomm. Reliance Jio, a part of Reliance Industries (RIL), has already tested home grown 5G equipment ahead of the commercial launch of 5G services.
