Cablevision Argentina selects Alcatel-Lucent for 100G optical coherent networking solution

Cablevision Argentina, Latin America’s cable TV and
Internet services provider, has selected Alcatel-Lucent’s 100G optical coherent
networking solution to increase performance and service speeds to meet the
growing demand for video, multimedia and Internet applications from its
customer base.

With this deployment, Cablevision Argentina will be the
first cable operator in South America to deploy an optical networking solution
to deliver services at 100 gigabits per second (100G) speeds.

Cablevision Argentina has more than three million CATV
customers and more than one million Internet users in Argentina, and offers the
service of Cablevision Digital HD. With the growth of subscribers and traffic
exhausting the company’s fiber capacity, the operator was looking for a
solution to manage increasing traffic while reducing the complexity and cost of
providing high quality services.

With Alcatel-Lucent’s solution, we are taking a major
step towards providing a highly flexible, future-proof network, scaling up to
100G, to support current and future bandwidth demands with increased
efficiencies and reduced time-to-market for new services,” said Gabriel Carro,
head of Engineering for Cablevision Argentina.

Alcatel-Lucent is supplying its 1830 Photonic Service
Switch (PSS) featuring next-generation 100G coherent technology to dramatically
improve capacity scalability. This is the first 100G-capable cable TV network
deployed in South America. Beyond expanding network capacity, the solution will
help Cablevision reduce operating and maintenance costs and lower power consumption.

Designed to address the booming bandwidth demands driven
by video streaming, web applications, file sharing and high definition movies,
next-generation 100G coherent technology is the compelling next step in optical
networking, offering unprecedented resilience to optical transmission
impairments across the network.

Cablevision continues to lead the Argentinean cable TV
market with the rapid expansion of its offerings, including new high definition
channels and the highest Internet speed commercially available. Our 100G
solution offers unprecedented capacity, bandwidth scalability, and the lowest
cost-per-bit for optimized total cost of ownership,” said Osvaldo Di
Campli, president of Alcatel-Lucent’s
activities in the Caribbean & Latin America region.
