China Telecom and Huawei apply network slicing solution

HuaweiChina Telecom Shanghai and Huawei revealed the deployment of access network slicing solution at a trial site.

Huawei said the solution will slice the access network to connect home, enterprise, and campus, improving overall network utilization, new service provisioning rates, network security and reliability.

The new solution will also enable operators to use a single network to deliver all types of services.

China Telecom Shanghai has a diverse user groups like enterprise private line users, common home users, and common campus users.

The user base of China Telecom Shanghai hence faced challenges to handle insufficient equipment room space and high power consumption.

To address the same, Huawei developed the first access network slicing solution based on the OLT MA5800. The latter is a new generation large-capacity distributed smart platform and will be shared by services through network slicing with all segments isolated from each other.

This ensures service reliability, network security, optimizing equipment room space power consumption, and physical resources. The solution enables configuration and independent management to meet user demands. Network slicing will enhance gigabit networks to address a diverse user base and demand range.

With the onset of 5G networks, network slicing will play a key role in aiding networks to reap more from their network infrastructures and resources while minimizing investment. For the same, SK Telecom and Ericsson also deployed network slicing and 5G radio network infrastructure trials to cover an entire track in the BMW driving center.

5G systems will also incorporate logical network slices to allow operators to deploy networks on an as-a-service basis catering to a wide range of use cases by 2020, suggest 5G Americas report.
