Ciena revenue up 12% despite slow growth in America

Ciena reported $818.8 million (+12.4 percent) revenue with 42.9 percent gross margin in Q3 fiscal 2018.

Ciena said its India business has contributed 10 percent revenue to total revenue this quarter, becoming one of the main countries for the networking company. The company strategy to shift focus towards non-telecom operators has started reflecting in revenue generation.

Ciena generated $593 million from Converged Packet Optical and $85 million from Packet Networking business.

The company’s networking platform business revenue rose to $677 million from $592 million, while other business divisions did not grow well.

Ciena said non-telco revenue represented 37 percent of total revenue.

Direct webscale revenue was 20 percent of total revenue. Ciena’s revenue from EMEA was up 27 percent, while Asia Pacific revenue grew 49 percent.

Ciena India revenue was 10 percent of total revenue at $83.6 million.

Ciena has 40 total customers for WaveLogic Ai including 11 new wins in Q3. Ciena has 96 customers for Waveserver including 12 added in Q3.

Ciena achieved significant increase in revenue from Asia Pacific, which continues to be the second largest revenue generating region in Q3.

Ciena generated 60.7 percent revenue from North America, 21.9 percent from Asia Pacific, 14.9 percent from EMEA and 3.4 percent from Latin America.

Ciena’s revenue from Asia Pacific increased to $172 million from $116 million.

Ciena’s revenue from Europe, Middle East and Africa increased to $122 million from $96 million.

Ciena said its revenue from Latin America and Caribbean dropped to $28 million from $52 million.
