Cisco vs Huawei in router business in 2022

The total worldwide enterprise and service provider (SP) router market revenue rose 0.7 percent to $4.6 billion in Q4 2022, IDC report.

For the full year, enterprise and SP router market revenues increased 3.9 percent to $16.5 billion, IDC said in its Ethernet Switch Tracker and Router Tracker.

The service provider router segment, which includes communications SPs and cloud SPs, accounted for 73.7 percent of the market’s total revenues.

The service provider segment of the global router market fell 4.0 percent in 4Q22 and grew 1.3 percent in 2022. Router revenues in the enterprise segment accounted for 26.3 percent share of the market and rose 17.1 percent in the quarter and increased 12.9 percent for the full year.

Cisco’s combined service provider and enterprise router revenue rose 10.9 percent in the fourth quarter and rose 5.5 percent for the full year. Cisco’s combined service provider and enterprise router market share touched 35.1 percent in 2022.

Huawei’s combined SP and enterprise router revenue dipped 15.1 percent in 4Q22, and fell 3.4 percent for the full year. Huawei’s combined SP and enterprise router market share reached 28.4 percent in 2022.

H3C’s combined service provider and enterprise routing market revenues dropped 8.6 percent in 4Q22, and were flat at 0.4 percent growth for the year. H3C’s combined service provider and enterprise routing market share was 2.2 percent for 2022.

The combined service provider and enterprise router market in the U.S. rose 18.5 percent in 4Q22 and was up 17 percent for the full year.

In Canada , the router market increased 12.3 percent in the quarter and rose 1.4 percent for the full year.

In Latin America, the router market rose 5.2 percent in 4Q22 and was up 16.7 percent for the full year.

In the Asia Pacific region (excluding Japan & China), the router market increased 0.7 percent in the quarter, but fell 3.9 percent for the full year.

Japan’s router market was up with 5.6 percent growth in 4Q22 and a 0.3 percent increase for the full year.

Router market in China decreased 18.9 percent in the quarter and 6.7 percent for the full year.

Router market revenues in Western Europe decreased 1.0 percent in 4Q22 but rose 5.2 percent for the full year.

Router market revenues in the Central and Eastern Europe market was down 17.1 percent in the quarter and 21.2 percent for the full year.

Router market revenues in the Middle East & Africa region was up 5.2 percent in the quarter and grew 3.7 percent for the full year.
