Tech giants Intel and Ericsson have announced a collaboration agreement that aims to utilize Intel’s cutting-edge 18A process and manufacturing technology.
This partnership announced today seeks to deliver highly differentiated 5G solutions and pave the way for future innovations in the telecom industry.
Under the agreement, Intel will leverage its manufacturing capabilities to produce custom 5G SoCs (system-on-chip) for Ericsson. These tailor-made chips will be utilized in Ericsson’s 5G infrastructure, ensuring the development of 5G networking products to meet the demands of next-generation networks.
The collaboration does not stop at SoCs, as the two companies will also work together to optimize 4th Gen Intel Xeon Scalable processors with Intel vRAN Boost for Ericsson’s Cloud RAN solutions. This optimization will allow communication service providers to enhance network capacity, improve energy efficiency, and achieve greater flexibility and scalability, thus ensuring a seamless 5G experience for end-users.

Intel’s 18A process node holds a critical position in the company’s ambitious roadmap, featuring advanced technologies such as the RibbonFET transistor architecture and PowerVia backside power delivery. By incorporating these innovations, Intel aims to regain its position as a process technology leader in 2025, empowering its customers with groundbreaking offerings for the market.
