Motorola executive joins Nokia Siemens India as R&D head

Telecom Lead India: Mobile broadband solutions provider
Nokia Siemens Network (NSN) has appointed Soumitra (Sammy) Sana as the head of
its R&D technology center in Bangalore, India.

Sana has joined Nokia Siemens from Motorola.

Sana succeeds Guenter Zwickl.

He has more than 30 years of experience in the
telecommunication industry. He was the country manager of Motorola in India and
also served as the director of its software development centers,
Times of India reported.

The struggling telecom equipment maker had announced 17,000 jobs cuts globally
to improve profitability. The company employs over 3,000 people at its R&D
center in Bangalore. It has no plans of reducing the 3,000-strong workforce at
the center.

The company is unlikely to slash jobs in its manufacturing
facility in Chennai that employs over 1000 people. It has two manufacturing
facilities in Chennai and Kolkata.

Nokia Siemens to outsource part of mobile network
management system R&D to Tieto

Recently, Nokia Siemens said it will outsource part of
maintenance, technical support and R&D of its mobile network Operations
Support System (OSS) and Subscriber Data Management (SDM) activities in Finland
to Tieto, an IT service company in Northern Europe providing IT and product
engineering services.

Around 240 employees who are working primarily in R&D
in Tampere and Espoo will transfer to Tieto as existing employees. The planned
transaction will strengthen Tieto’s position as an outsourcing provider of both
R&D and IT services.

Nokia Siemens and Tieto have been partners for a long
time. This outsourcing is in line with its global strategy announced in
November of focusing on the core areas of business and increasing efficiency.
