MWC 2014: SkyCross brings new LTE antennas

At the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2014, SkyCross today announced new LTE antennas that achieve data rates approaching 600Mbps.

SkyCross’s Dual iMAT technology allows four or more antennas to compactly fit into a smartphone form factor, while maintaining sufficient isolation to enable 4X4 MIMO (multiple input multiple output).

“SkyCross has developed a unique antenna solution for 4X4 MIMO that both solves the spatial issue of fitting numerous antennas into a small form factor with sufficient isolation, but also drastically improves data rates and overall performance,” said Bruno Jacobfeuerborn, chief technology oOfficer at Deutsche Telekom.

Deutsche Telekom announced it has employed SkyCross’s Dual iMAT 4X4 MIMO products in its latest field testing and achieved 580Mbps peak speed and ultimate cell edge performance with the new antenna technology on a live LTE network environment.

SkyCross’s Dual iMAT technology achieves this performance breakthrough through a combination of 4X4 MIMO and dual band carrier aggregation. Whether for a single band of LTE, two bands of LTE with carrier aggregation, or even recently announced 3-band carrier aggregation, 4X4 MIMO can significantly enhance performance by almost 2X.

With early analyst forecasts in the range of 300 million incremental 4X4 MIMO-enabled mobile devices in the next five years, 4X4 MIMO could contribute well over $1 billion to the ecosystem in infrastructure, mobile devices and services.

SkyCross is exploring partnership opportunities with operators and leading technology companies, and is making available its 4X4 MIMO development kit in support.
