Nokia @ MWC 2023 in BarcelonaNokia also has a 20 percent market share in optical network terminal (ONT) technology in India.

Fiber connectivity is a priority for both fixed and mobile operators, with much of the demand coming from fiber to the home (FTTH) but also in the form of transport networks for mobile operators’ 5G deployments.

Nokia, one of the leading telecom equipment makers, is supplying its Lightspan FX product lines to Indian service providers, as well as upcoming next generation GPON access nodes which offer smaller low-density OLTs.

“Nokia is at the forefront in the evolution of PON Technology. Receiving independent verification of our leadership position of OLT technology from Omdia is deeply satisfying and we take immense pride in contributing to the digital transformation of India,” Santiswarup Tripathy, Head of India Fixed Networks RBC at Nokia, said.

“FTTP deployments in developing countries are presenting a significant opportunity for PON equipment vendors. Nokia captured this opportunity in 2021 and 2022 as the leading OLT vendor in India with more than 70 percent share,” Julie Kunstler, Chief Analyst, Broadband Access Intelligence Service at OMDIA, said.
