Nokia reveals benefits from Gigabit Smart Build broadband technology

In a move to simplify ultra-broadband access, the launch of Gigabit Smart Build portfolio by Nokia aims to aid telecom service providers to build ultra-broadband networks economically.

Containing a set of services, processes and automated tools, the broadband technology portfolio claims to be built on accumulated Nokia expertise in designing and rolling out ultra-broadband networks and network transformation.

Broadband upgrade programs face chances of getting delayed or facing hurdles with planning and implementation, which the portfolio claims to lessen by introducing and commercializing new technology and products ensuring support for competitive services.

A 3-step approach addressing specific points of planning, deploying and operating are implemented under the portfolio.

The Business and Technology Modeling tools claim to aid by resulting in accurate business cases and selecting the right technology and strategy to move to Gigabit. The portfolio offers real-world experience and expertise with a management service alongside accelerating time-to-market for new products and technology.

To create cost and time effective networks with the right build, the Network Build Control Management service of the portfolio will automate network rollout. The ONT Easy Start solution launched last year by Nokia will work together with it to enable end-users to activate the Optical Network Terminal themselves, reducing installation and activation costs by 40 percent or more.

Tools like Network Assessment & Health Check tool will fasten and ease migration of legacy broadband networks. Big data analysis will be done for the same to provide insight into network performance and capacity management, and software upgrades will also become faster and better in quality via systematic upgrades.

The service claims rollout errors cut down by a factor of three by controlling end-to-end network rollout and automation.

The time-to-market is also halved by minimizing preparation time, accelerating rollouts and increasing rollout volume.

The return on investment (ROI) will hike with operators going for the best evolution path claiming 95 percent accuracy, optimizing rollouts and lifecycle management, and reducing legacy migration costs.

Related to the same, around 10 key programs have been conducted with customers worldwide, upgrading and transforming their wireline broadband access networks.

“A recent network transformation survey we conducted confirmed that service providers face numerous network transformation challenges, such as choosing the best technology strategy and understanding its impact on future upgrades, identifying new revenue opportunities and meeting rollout targets and network optimization goals,” said Julie Kunstler, principal analyst at Ovum.

Earlier, Nokia revealed that it is focusing on building large-scale and flexible network infrastructures for service providers and webscale enterprises by bringing together IP Routing, Optical Transport, and IP Video with software and services to manage the transformation with end-to-end ultra-broadband solutions.

The revenue of Nokia fell 8 percent in Q1 2016, primarily driven by Ultra Broadband Networks which fell 12 percent.
