Nokia Siemens expects mobile broadband market to be flat in 2013

Telecom Lead Asia: Nokia Siemens Networks on Monday said mobile broadband market will be relatively flat in 2013, compared to 2012.

In 2012, Nokia Siemens’ mobile broadband net sales were EUR 6 billion and operating profit non-IFRS before specific items was EUR 488 million, or 8.1 percent of net sales.

In its annual report for 2012, Nokia Siemens said it continues to target for its non-IFRS operating margin to be between 5 percent and 10 percent.

Recently, analyst firm TBR said that Nokia Siemens enters 2013 with uncertainty around its long-term LTE prospects. With Japan- and South Korea-based operators putting the finishing touches on their LTE networks and shifting their focus from coverage to capacity enhancement, NSN will need to increase its focus on the U.S., leveraging its contracts with T-Mobile USA and U.S. Cellular to boost LTE revenue. Latin America will also contribute, as LTE rollouts are underway in Brazil, where NSN holds contracts with America Movil’s Claro brand, TIM and Oi.

Nokia Siemens Networks — for the first time — disclosed revenue details of mobile broadband and global services, its two operating segments.

In 2012, Nokia Siemens Networks’ mobile broadband net sales were EUR 6.0 billion (EUR 6.3 billion in 2011) and operating profit non-IFRS before specific items was EUR 488 million (EUR 214 million in 2011), or 8.1 percent (3.4 percent) of net sales.

In 2012, Nokia Siemens Networks’ global services net sales were EUR 6.9 billion (EUR 6.7 billion in 2011) and operating profit non-IFRS before specific items was EUR 332 million (EUR 229 million), or 4.8 percent (3.4 percent) of net sales.
