Nokia’s “everything as a service” offers 40% cost cut

Telecom network and software major Nokia has launched “everything as a service” — XaaS — for telecom operators and enterprises to offer faster access to services and focus more on core activities.

Telecom operators and enterprises can reduce costs by up to 40 percent by tapping the Nokia XaaS platform powered by AirFrame Data Center solution with cloud-based delivery enabled by the Nokia AVA platform.

Nokia said that its XaaS offerings include AirScale Wi-Fi Controller as a service, optimization as a service, SmartData as a service and Nokia 5520 Access Management System as a service. Nokia XaaS portfolio leverages services expertise across fixed, mobile and IP technologies.

Nokia is extending its XaaS offer to deliver a range of technologies including Wi-Fi, fixed and mobile ‘as a service’ at a time when enterprises recognize the business opportunity in providing connectivity to attract data-hungry customers.

Nokia will host technologies, delivering them as a service on a multi-tenancy basis using the Nokia AVA platform. This will allow customers to turn capital expenditure into operating expenditure while reducing overall installation, integration and ownership costs by up to 40 percent.

Through AirScale Wi-Fi Controller as a service offer Nokia will manage the enterprise Wi-Fi network. The Nokia Wi-Fi controller will remotely configure, monitor and manage up to 8,000 outdoor and indoor access points, allowing support to be scaled as demand grows.

Nokia’s Optimization as a service allows telecom operators to access and use software applications such as 3-D Geolocation to transform planning and optimization activities. AVA provides a single unified platform to collect and store colossal amounts of data, while providing open APIs for analytics.

Nokia’s SmartData as a service aims to close the gap between network conditions and the subscriber experience. Nokia will analyze the statistical performance of devices on the network and the services and applications they use.

“The extensive Nokia XaaS portfolio will allow operators and enterprises to tap our global scale and experience and capitalize on operational efficiencies while rapidly meeting subscriber demands with the quality they expect in today’s connected world,” said Igor Leprince, head of Global Services at Nokia.

Meanwhile, Nokia today also launched Mobile Edge Computing-based enterprise applications. Nokia said MEC enables private, low-latency applications tailored to specific enterprise needs. Data-intensive applications enable object tracking, video surveillance and analytics to enhance operations and security for industrial facilities, transport hubs, hospitals and other verticals.

“MEC allows enterprises to take advantage of the latest generation LTE technology, in particular small cells, and real time applications for building complete campus networks. These networks meet the demanding privacy, resilience, and latency requirements set by business-critical applications, extending LTE to new domains,” said Dirk Lindemeier, head of Mobile Edge Computing and Wi-Fi products at Nokia.
