RAD adds customer-edge D-NFV solution for telecoms

RAD today introduced a customer-edge Distributed Network Functions Virtualization (D-NFV) solution for telecom service providers.

The customer-edge D-NFV solution is based on its ETX, a Layer 2/Layer 3 Network Termination Unit (NTU), said RAD.

The NTU is equipped with a D-NFV x86 server module that functions as a virtualization engine at the customer edge.

Ulik Broida, vice president of Marketing and Business Development at RAD, said: “Service providers should be free to locate NFV in all possible locations, from the data center to the network node to the customer premises.”

RAD said its solution will be an ideal first phase towards full-scale NFV deployment, which may combine VNFs at the customer edge, the network nodes and at the data center.

The company has also announced the formation of the RAD D-NFV Alliance, an application ecosystem of network functions and value added capabilities.

RAD will conduct a live D-NFV demonstration at CommunicAsia 2014.
