Sprint in pact with Neptune for advanced water meters

Sprint and
Neptune Technology Group announced that Neptune’s ARBFixedBase Automated
Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and ARB FixedBase Automated Meter Reading (AMR)
Systems are now available with Sprint 3G network communications backhaul.

“Utilities
want to know that their AMI/AMR system will provide them with the best life
cycle value in the industry,” said Kent Murray, vice president-marketing
and engineering, Neptune.

“We are
excited to be adding the capabilities of Sprint’s network to our ARB FixedBase
AMR and AMI Systems. Sprint’s network has withstood the test of time and their
network investments have strongly positioned them to meet the data and security
requirements that our customers require today and in the future,” Murray
added.

By leveraging
the unique strengths of Neptune’s 115+ years of experience and Sprint’s
reputation among enterprise customers for voice and data services, water
utilities will now have access to one of the best AMR/AMI system solutions in
the industry.

Recently,
Sprint has replaced
AT&T as the wireless provider to the City of Houston, the fourth-most
populous city in the United States. Sprint’s win marks the first time a carrier
other than AT&T has provided wireless service to the city since the 1980s.

Sprint will supply cellphones, push-to-talk
devices, emergency communications and data services for most city departments.
Houston Mayor Annise Parker signalled the importance of the contract by having
a Sprint satellite truck parked next to City Hall to demonstrate emergency
communications capabilities and by sending her council liaison around to give
council members a look at the phones they would be issued in an emergency.
