The telecom tower power system market revenue is expected to grow at a CAGR of 12.2 percent during the forecast period.

The growth in the number of Internet users and change in consumer behaviour in terms of cellular data uses are some of the factors driving the telecom tower power system market. The unreliable grid segment is projected to register more than 69 percent market share by 2025.

High operating cost and stringent carbon emission regulations are inhibiting the growth of the telecom tower power system market. Telecom tower operators that use diesel generators as a power source incur high operating costs since diesel prices increase annually by 1–2 percent. Higher operating costs result in lower profit margins for global telecom tower companies and telecom service provider companies.

India has more than 1.2 billion subscribers connected through 5 lakh mobile towers with more than 20 lakh BTS.

Tower and Infrastructure Providers Association (TAIPA), an industry association for telecom tower companies in India, says telecom sector is the major growth driver for Li-on energy storage solutions. The energy storage solutions contribute up to 5GWh towards power consumption and will grow up to 25GWh by 2022.

Tilak Raj Dua, director general of TAIPA, said telecom infrastructure industry is committed to develop a sustainable telecommunication ecosystem by using efficient energy solutions such as Li-ion batteries, simple power panels, fuel cells, solar cooling units and FCUs etc.

Telecom tower companies have already converted more than 1 lakh 15 thousand towers sites as diesel free sites.
