Telefonica deploys Juniper solutions to augment network security

TelefonicaTelecom network operator Telefonica has deployed Juniper Networks solutions to augment its network security.

Juniper Networks said its SRX Series Services Gateways will assist Telefonica, which has more than 347 million customers worldwide, to performance, scalability and software defined security services.

Juniper will provide professional services to increase overall network stability for enhanced business operations.

The cloud-based network architecture with integrated security functions will allow Telefonica to scale, automate and simplify its business operations, and improve network performance while future-proofing to enable a software defined secure network (SDSN). SDSN allows Telefonica to detect security issues and enforce mitigating policy anywhere in the network.

SRX Series Services Gateways set new benchmarks with 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) interfaces and Juniper Networks’ Express Pathtechnology, which enables up to two terabytes per second (Tbps) performance.

“We are making advancements towards our goal to secure, simplify and modernize our network to offer differentiated services that greatly enhance the customer experience,” said Javier Gavilan, Planning and Technology Director, Global CTO, Telefonica.

Network security market

The wireless network security market is expected to grow from $8.47 billion in 2014 to $15.55 billion by 2019, at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 12.94 percent. North America will hold the largest market for wireless network security market in terms of geographical regions, according to a report in MarketsandMarkets.

The network security appliance and software market revenue declined 9 percent sequentially to $2 billion in Q1 2016, but rose 8 percent from the year-ago quarter, said IHS Technology. Fortinet and Palo Alto continue to post solid year-over-year growth, and the intrusion prevention system (IPS) segment had another good quarter, starting the year up 12 percent year-over-year.

Fortinet, Palo Alto Networks, Check Point, Dell and Cisco are expected to battle it out for market share for at least the next 18 months.

Data center firewall vendors are experiencing growth due to the integration of distributed denial of service (DDoS) mitigation and bulk Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption and decryption.

The network security appliance and software market is forecast to grow at a 6.4 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) from 2015 to 2020, hitting $11 billion in 2020 driven by virtualization and cloud enablement.
