ZTE replaces Huawei Technologies at Cambodian telecoms Sotelco

Cambodian telecom operator Sotelco has selected Chinese mobile network vendor ZTE by replacing Huawei Technologies.

As per the telecom network deal for Sotelco 2G, 3G and 4G services, ZTE wireless solutions will displace Huawei equipment in hundreds of sites, covering Phnom Penh and core areas of other provinces.

Sotelco, which has subscribers in 24 provinces in Cambodia, has won 1900MHz frequency for 3G network deployment in 2013. It will start deploying 3G services for all subscribers in Cambodia in 2014.

ZTE will also support Sotelco for the launch of 4G services in 2014. The Chinese telecom network vendor did not share financial details of the deal.

Huawei is not available for comments.

ZTE, one of the rivals of Huawei, will supply solutions to support GSM, UMTS, and technologies on the same hardware platform, avoiding the need to run multiple hardware platforms.

ZTE Vice President Zhang Jianpeng said that the project will deepen ZTE’s understanding of the mobile market in Cambodia.

The company said its Uni-RAN solution supports 42Mbps HSPA+ 3G and 4G LTE services for Sotelco, enabling the network to meet rising demand for 3G and 4G mobile broadband services, while managing network resources.
