Airtel Capex grows 19 percent in mobile Internet in India

airtel-investment-in-3g-network-in-q2-fiscal-2017Bharti Airtel has revealed its investment towards capital expenditure (Capex) during the second quarter of fiscal 2017.

Airtel’s India investment was Rs 4,580.4 crore (+19 percent) during the second quarter ended September 30, 2016.

Airtel has made an investment of Rs 3,705.5 crore (+19 percent) in consumer business, Rs 216.2 crore (+128 percent) towards home business, Rs 254.1 crore (+2 percent), Rs 150.7 crore (+33 percent) towards enterprise business and Rs 212.8 crore (–14 percent) towards infrastructure business.

The company is spending huge funds on building its mobile internet business. But Airtel did not reveal the actual subscriber base of 4G users in India. Reliance Jio has added 16 million 4G users in September month alone.

Thanks to investment in mobile Internet infrastructure, Airtel said its mobile data revenues reached Rs 4,536 crore, while data volumes grew 61.6 percent.

Bharti Airtel has customer stands at 363.1 million (+8.5 percent) across 18 countries.

Revenue of Airtel was Rs 24,652 crore (+5.6 percent).

Airtel India revenues rose 10.1 percent to Rs 19,219 crore, while Airtel Africa increased 4.7 percent.

Mobile data traffic reached 222 Bn MBs (+61.6 percent) in the quarter.

Consolidated Mobile Data revenues were Rs 4,536 crore (+21 percent).

Consolidated EBITDA was Rs 9,466 crore (+14.5 percent).

Net Income for the quarter fell to Rs 1,461 crore from Rs 1,536 crore.

Consolidated revenue was Rs 24,652 crore (+3.4 percent).

India revenues of Rs 19,219 crore was led by growth of 20.9 percent in Digital TV, 19.2 percent in Airtel Business, 14.9 percent in Homes and 7.9 percent in Mobile.

Mobile Data revenues at Rs 3,576 crore grew by 23.6 percent, led by increase in the Data customer base by 22.8 percent and traffic by 54.9 percent.

Mobile Broadband customers increased by 62.2 percent to 41.3 Mn from 25.5 Mn. Data ARPU has moved up by Rs 8 to Rs 201 in Q2 2017, led by 30.6 percent increase in usage per customer. Mobile Data revenues now contribute to 24.7 percent of Mobile India revenues against 21.5 percent in the corresponding quarter last year.
