Telecom Lead India: Mobile operator Bharti Airtel has launched mEducation services at prices starting at Rs 1.5 / day.
Airtel’s mEducation platform enables Airtel mobile users across the country to access education services including courses for language skills, entrance exam preparation and career counseling from universities and professors on their mobile phones.
According to a report by the GSMA — prepared by McKinsey & Company – mEducation will be a $70 billion market opportunity by 2020.
GSMA’s mEducation initiative aims to accelerate the adoption of mobile education solutions, particularly mobile-enabled portable devices, such as e-Readers and tablets, in mainstream education settings. This global initiative seeks to understand the landscape and address the barriers and opportunities in this emerging market.
While education systems are country or even local authority-specific, GSMA says that globally coordinated activity drawing on common experience and sharing best practices will be vital to understand and act upon the mobile education opportunity.
K Srinivas, president- Consumer Business, Bharti Airtel, said: “In many parts of the country, access to formal education is still restricted. Mobile platform has the potential to bridge this restriction using technology. Airtel mEducation service uses technology-enabled platforms to address the challenging issues of education with an endeavor to enrich the lives of our customers.”
Customers can now easily improve their capabilities with new skills and build self-confidence by improving their use of English language, through test preparations for entrance exams or personality development sessions.
MBA aspirants can now learn the tricks to crack the CAT by the CAT guru Arun Sharma. Both working professionals and students can easily avail the services in the convenience of their homes with the flexibility to learn at their own pace at affordable prices.
Based on both voice (IVR) and SMS format, the curses offer interactive learning in the native language of the customers. Regular assessment tests also help customers to evaluate their progress.
