Airtel ranked 187 in global brand survey; grows brand value by 42 percent

Brand Finance, in its annual brand survey, has placed Airtel in the list of top
200 valuable brands in the world.

The survey, which identifies top 500 brands, says Airtel has
seen the biggest growth in its value. The largest private telco in India grew
its brand value by 42 percent from $3.68 billion to $5.22 billion in this
year’s survey.

Also, Airtel has moved up 97 notches to 187 from last year
rank of 284. 

The UK-based Brand Finance values various brands across the
globe and then ranks them based on these valuations. 

The agency also noted that Airtel and 5 other Indian brands
have together have added a total of $37.9 billion (or Rs 1.89 lakh crore) to
the global league’s intangible value in the top 500 list. 

Apple was ranked no.1, followed by software giants Google,
Microsoft, and IBM grabbing the next consecutive ranks respectively. Apple has
made a bigger leap rising from the 8th rank in 2011, pushing last
year’s topper Google to second position. Retailer brand Wallmart is pushed to 5th
rank this year from 3rd position in 2011.

Vodafone that grabbed fifth rank in 2011 is pushed to 9th
rank. AT&T, which is often in news for poor customer service, is shifted by
one point down to 11th position.

Tata Group is the only brand from India that was ranked
within the first 50. This year, Tata got 45th rank, 5 points up from
last year’s value. Reliance Industries was ranked 237 — down by more than 100
points from 2011 while software major Infosys pushed ahead to grab 297th
rank as opposed to 381 in 2011.
