Airtel revenue, ARPU, profit, Capex, Opex for Sept quarter

Indian telecom operator Bharti Airtel has revealed its revenue, ARPU, profit, Capex, Opex, among others, for the quarter ended September 30, 2020.

Phone customer base of Airtel – in India and Africa — increased 6.9 percent to ~440 million as on September 30, 2020.

Total minutes of usage on the network rose 20.5 percent to 952 billion.

Mobile data traffic grew 58.8 percent to 7,949 billion MBs.

Consolidated revenues grew 22 percent to Rs 257,850 million.

Opex increased 12 percent to Rs 85,150 million primarily due to continued investment in network.

The capital expenditure was Rs 67,907 million as compared to Rs 37,901 million in the same quarter last year and Rs 39,753 million in the previous quarter.

EBITDA rose 32.6 percent to Rs 118,483 million. EBITDA margin for the quarter was at 46.0 percent as compared to 42.3 percent in the corresponding quarter last year and 44.4 percent in the previous quarter.

Airtel India

Airtel India revenues rose to 22 percent to Rs 187,470 million.

Airtel India’s customer base increased 5.1 percent to 293.7 million as on September 30 2020. The company added 13.9 million customers during the quarter. Airtel India achieved a decrease in customer churn at 1.7 percent compared to 2.1 percent in same quarter last year. Airtel India’s voice traffic on the network grew 20.1 percent to 861 billion minutes during the quarter.

Airtel India’s 4G data customer base increased by 50 million to reach 152.7 million. Data traffic grew 58.2 percent to 7,640 billion.

Average mobile data usage per customer increased 25.1 percent to 16.0 GBs as compared to 12.8 GBs.

Airtel India had 201,192 network towers vs 185,582 network towers in the corresponding quarter last year.

Airtel India has 199,464 mobile broadband towers. Airtel India has 537,206 mobile broadband base stations vs 461,891 mobile broadband base stations at the end of the same quarter last year and 506,957 at the end of the previous quarter.

Airtel India’s overall ARPU increased to Rs 162 as compared to Rs 128 in the corresponding quarter last year.

India EBITDA margin for the quarter was at 45.8 percent as compared to 41.2 percent in the corresponding quarter last year and 44.3 percent in the previous quarter.

EBIT was at Rs 44,117 million as compared to Rs 19,930 million in the same quarter last year and the resultant EBIT margin was at 17.1 percent as compared to 9.4 percent in the corresponding quarter last year.

Airtel India’s Capex was Rs 41,736 million. Airtel enhanced roll-outs of sites in Q2 and added 5,000+ sites to cross the 200,000 site count mark. “We continue to remain focused on optimally augmenting our coverage and capacities to offer a differentiated network experience,” Airtel said.

Airtel India had Homes fixed broadband operations in 145 cities (including LCOs). Airtel India added ~129,000 broadband customers to reach 2.58 million in Q2 2021, highest in the last 22 quarters.

Airtel’s Homes fixed broadband had capital expenditure of Rs 3,087 million. The company focused on fast-track the network expansion by rolling out Fiber Home Passes and upgrading existing copper network.

Airtel’s Digital TV has operations in 639 districts. The company added a base of 549,000 to 17.4 million in Q2.

Airtel’s Digital TV ARPU was Rs 148 vs Rs 152. Revenue from Digital TV services was Rs 7,548 million vs Rs 7,407 million. Airtel Digital TV’s Capex was Rs 3,469 million.
