America Movil Capex jumps to 170 bn pesos in 2021

America Movil said its capital expenditure (Capex) has touched 170 billion pesos in 2021 as against 130 billion pesos in 2020.

America Movil added 4.8 million wireless subscribers in the fourth quarter, including 2.2 million postpaid subscribers, of which 1.1 million came from Brazil, 357 thousand from Colombia and 202 thousand from Austria. America Movil said its postpaid base increased 10.1 percent year-on-year.

America Movil said it added 4.8 million wireless subscribers in the fourth quarter, bringing its total to 287 million subscribers, including 2.2 million postpaid customers. The company also reported 72,000 new broadband additions.

America Movil acquired four national blocks of 80MHz and four national blocks of 20MHz in the 3.5GHz band; five regional blocks of 50MHz in the 2.3GHz frequency and ten national blocks of 200MHz in the 26GHz band in Brazil.

Mexican telecommunications giant said its fourth quarter net profit more than tripled from the year-ago period, boosted by its sale of its TracFone wireless unit to American telecom giant Verizon Communications.

The company, which is controlled by the family of Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, has posted a net profit of 135.6 billion pesos ($6.6 billion), compared with 37.3 billion pesos a year earlier.

The company closed the sale of TracFone in November in a deal worth more than $6 billion in cash and Verizon stock.

EBITDA grew 16.6 percent in nominal terms to reach 89.8 billion pesos.
