America Movil investment in telecom networks grows

America Movil, promoted by billionaire Carlos Slim, is investing heavily in 4G LTE networks to improve customer experience.

“Through September we funded capital expenditures in the amount of 105.7 billion pesos,” said America Movil in a statement.

The network investment of America Movil in Mexico, its primary market, is aimed at taking on two big operators AT&T and Telefonica.

Both AT&T and Telefonica are drumming up their investment efforts and presence in the telecom market in Mexico.

America Movil made investments in rolling out 4G LTE network in the main cities to provide higher data speeds and a better connectivity experience for our clients in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay. Smartphone sales and data plans are driving mobile data revenues that rose 33.5 percent in Q3 2015, accounting for 50.2 percent of service revenues

In Brazil, America Movil achieved 24 percent growth in revenues from mobile data services.

In Chile, its wireless data revenues rose 13.5 percent. “In the third quarter we were handed 20MHz of spectrum in the 700MHz frequency that we won in an auction in February 2014 to continue with our 4G LTE rollout,” said America Movil.

In Colombia, America Movil’s mobile data revenues rose 10.6 percent.

In Ecuador, mobile data revenues of America Movil fell 5.8 percent while fixed-line revenues were 0.8 percent lower as fixed data and PayTV revenues failed to compensate for the decline in fixed voice revenues. America Movil launched 4GLTE network in the main cities in Ecuador.

In Peru, America Movil’s data revenues increased 17.6 percent on the wireless platform.

America Movil has 368.2 million users — 288.4 million wireless subscribers, 34.9 million landlines, 23.4 million broadband accesses and 21.6 million PayTV units.

Third quarter revenues of America Movil rose 1.2 percent to 223.6 billion pesos. Voice revenues fell in relation to service revenues. Data revenue growth in mobile was 10.7 percent and 7 percent in the fixed platforms.
