BT Capex dips 10% to £533 mn, Q2 revenue drops 2% to £4.4 bn

Telecom service provider BT today said its Capex (capital spending) for Q2 fiscal 2015 decreased 10 percent to £533 million.

BT said it invested substantially in fiber, sport, regulatory headwinds, etc.

BT Q2 revenue dipped 2 percent to £4,383 million, while profit before tax increased 13 percent to £690 million.

EBITDA of BT rose 1 percent to £1,450 million.

BT showed overall poor performance in Q2 excluding BT Consumer.

The company said BT global services revenue dipped 5 percent to £1,649 million, BT business fell 1 percent to £789 million, BT Consumer increased 7 percent to £1,056 million, BT wholesale dropped 15 percent to £529 million and BT Openreach declined 2 percent to £1,271 million.

BT Q2 revenue break-up

BT Consumer business grew thanks to 17 percent growth in broadband and TV revenues. BT said one in three of its retail broadband customers – more than 2.5 million premises – are using fiber.

The audiences for BT Premier League football matches grew 45 percent.

BT said fiber revenues increased 38 percent at Openreach and the company added 344,000 new fiber customers in the second quarter.

The company said fiber network passes 21 million premises. More than 40,000 additional premises are being passed every week under the BDUK program.

BT said it’s investing in research and development focusing on future technologies. For instance, BT conducted field trials of G.FAST technology, which achieved downstream speeds of around 800Mbps and upstream speeds of more than 200Mbps.

The telecom service provider is recruiting an additional 500 engineers at Openreach taking the total of new jobs announced at that business since April to 2,400.
