Mobile communications revenue increased by 12 percent to
NT$25.6 billion and mobile value-added services (VAS) revenue increased by 29.2
percent to NT$4.6 billion.
Chunghwa Telecom’s internet revenue increased by 1.7
percent to NT$6.2 billion, on the other hand internet VAS revenue increased by
1.6 percent to NT$0.6 billion.
The company posted NT$19.0 billion revenue from domestic
fixed communications, down 1.1 percent as compared with the same period of last
year.
International fixed communications revenue decreased by
4.0 percent Y-o-Y to NT$3.6 billion.
Other revenue increased by 81.6 percent, primarily due to
construction revenue from the property development subsidiary, Light Era.
The company’s total operating costs and expenses stood at
NT$44.1 billion, increased by 14.4 percent as compared with Q1 2011.
EBITDA for the first quarter of 2012 decreased by 11.8
percent to NT$19.4 billion, while income from operations decreased by 18.7
percent to NT$11.3 billion.
For the first quarter of 2012, Chunghwa Telecom posted net income of NT$9.5 billion,
representing a 19.8 percent decrease.
As of the end of the first quarter 2012, FTTx subscribers
had reached 2.5 million, accounting for 55.8% of total broadband users. HiNet
broadband subscribers totaled 3.7 million at the end of March 2012, a
year-over-year rise of 3.2%.
As of the end of March 2012, Chunghwa Telecom had 10.1
million mobile subscribers, an increase of 3.1 percent compared to 9.8 million
a year ago.
Chunghwa Telecom to expand workforce by 8% in 2012
Recently, Chunghwa Telecom announced that it is planning
to expand its workforce by around 8 percent this year to tap into new business
opportunities brought on by the closer economic ties between Taiwan and China.
