Deutsche Telekom achieves 9% growth in EBITDA

Deutsche Telekom HQDeutsche Telekom posted revenue of 18.9 billion euros (+6 percent) Adjusted EBITDA of 5.9 billion euros (+8.9 percent) and net profit (+40 percent) in the second quarter of 2017.

T-Mobile US was one of the main contributors for the marginal increase in the quarterly revenue of the Germany based telecom giant.

“Our record investments are paying off: Growing numbers of customers are choosing our networks and products. And revenue and earnings are lifting substantially on the back of this strong customer growth,” said Deutsche Telekom CFO Thomas Dannenfeldt.

Deutsche Telekom said cash Capex (capital expenditure) increased 13.5 percent in the first half of 2017 to 6.2 billion euros.

Deutsche Telekom said the Group invested 3 billion euros (+12.4 percent) between April and June. Including expenses for mobile spectrum, this figure rises to 10.2 billion, of which 7.2 billion euros were used by T-Mobile US to acquire spectrum at the auction in the United States.

Net debt increased by five billion euros compared with the end of 2016 to 55.2 billion euros — driven mainly by the U.S. spectrum investments.

Germany

Deutsche Telekom posted revenue of 5.4 billion euros (+0.6 percent) in Germany, while Adjusted EBITDA increased 1.1 percent to 2.1 billion euros. EBITDA margin stood at 39.1 percent.

LTE coverage of Deutsche Telekom was over 93 percent. Telekom Deutschland’s capital expenditure grew 17 percent to more than 2 billion euros.

The number of customer households that are connected directly via high-speed fiber-optic lines (FTTH and FTTC/vectoring) grew by 622,000 in the quarter to 8.2 million.

T-Mobile US

Service revenues of T-Mobile US increased 8.5 percent to $7.3 billion. Total revenue increased 9.7 percent to $10.2 billion. Adjusted EBITDA rose 18 percent to $2.9 billion.

Europe

The number of households with access to fixed-network bandwidths of at least 100 megabits/second was up by more than one million year-on-year to around 5.3 million. The LTE mobile standard now covers 102 million (+21 million) people.

Deutsche Telekom’s revenue in Europe reached 2.9 billion euros (+2.4 percent), while adjusted EBITDA declined 2.2 percent to 0.9 billion euros.
