Deutsche Telekom today announced that it will raise the number of mobile base stations in Germany from 27,000 in 2017 to 36,000 in 2021.
Deutsche Telekom’s LTE network will reach 98 percent of the population by 2019 from 97.5 percent at present.
“This expansion is an important component for the future 5G network. 5G combines fixed-network and mobile communications,” Walter Goldenits, chief technology officer at Telekom Deutschland, said.
Deutsche Telekom added 200 new mobile base stations driving network expansion in both in fixed network and mobile communications in Germany.
Deutsche Telekom’s engineers are integrating new cellular sites every two months as part of the network integration process. Deutsche Telekom is also focusing on adding new antennas into the existing network.
“Almost four and a half thousand new services were brought into the network in June and July as part of this process. This means more than 160,000 additional customers can now access Deutsche Telekom’s LTE network, bringing current population coverage up to 97.5 percent,” Deutsche Telekom said.
