Huawei, Zain to build all-IP mobile network in Kuwait

Huawei and telecom service provider Zain will build a unified all-IP mobile network in Kuwait.

Zain will become the first telecom operator to deploy a 100G E2E network that adopts IP and OTN synergy in the Middle East.

Earlier, ZTE said 3G and 4G Internet have assisted Zain to post $1.06 billion revenue in first quarter 2013. Zain Group’s net income rose 3 percent q-o-q to $184 million in the first quarter of 2013

Recently, Zain launched nationwide 4G LTE in Kuwait and posted mobile customer growth of 9 percent.

“As our LTE users grow in our network and data multiplies, we realize the pressure this puts on our backhaul. Our radio capabilities need to be able to cater for these growing demands which have been carefully planned, but now it is time to unify our backhaul to be able to provide end to end quality of service and a seamless end user experience,” said Hani El-Kukhun, chief operation officer at Zain Kuwait.

Zain made substantial investments in both 3G and 4G. As a result, the operator revealed that its data revenues increased 14 percent in the first quarter.

Huawei will provide all-IP bearer network solution, including a series of routers. The IP solution can support Zain’s business development in the future and support the next generation LTE-A service.

“The development trend of the bearer network is toward IP and optical networks, and Huawei has made long-term strategic investments in IP and optical networks. Huawei provides unified E2E bearer network solutions to help customers meet back-hauling requirements in the ultra-wideband era,” said Zha Jun, president of Huawei Network Product Line.
