Idea Money expands retail presence for digital payment

Micromax smartphoneIdea Money, a digital wallet from telecom operator Idea Cellular, has tied up with retailers to make digital transactions for customers.

Idea Money, which is available across USSD, website and mobile app channels on Android and iOS platforms, has a customer base of approximately 5 million wallets as of 30 September, 2016.

Idea Money wallet does not depend on smartphone / data usage and can be used by feature phone customers as well, through USSD or assisted mode.

Idea Money has launched its Retailer Assisted Model to make digital payments at retail outlets in the country.

Idea Cellular said the Retailer Assisted Model will assist less tech friendly customers and retailers to make use of the digital payment platform. The company has partnered with online and offline retailers and merchants, allowing Idea’s 185 million customer base to use its digital wallet services.

Airline / bus ticket and hotel booking, in addition to the regular DMR (Domestic Money Remittance) and other recharges and utility bill payments are some of the services.

“With less than 15 percent of internet users in India who buy digitally, Retailer Assisted Module will help digital customers get online and experience the convenience and benefits of e-commerce,” said Sudhakar Ramasubramanian, CEO (Designate), Aditya Birla Idea Payments Bank.
