MTNL employees protest for salary, BSNL releases payment

MTNL employees have protested in front of Sanchar Bhawan, which houses the department of telecommunications (DoT), demanding the release of their pending salary, Financial Express reported.

MTNL’s salary bill accounts for 90 percent of its revenues. MTNL generates revenues of Rs 190 crore per month but expenditure for basic functions and salary is around Rs 275 crore.

BSNL clears salary

BSNL on Monday said that it has released salary of employees for payment for the month of July, PTI reported.

BSNL chairman and managing director P K Purwar said the telecom operator on August 5 released the salary from internal accruals.

BSNL reported loss of around Rs 14,000 crore on a revenue of Rs 19,308 crore during 2018-19. BSNL’s provisional loss was Rs 4,859 crore in 2015-16, Rs 4,793 crore in 2016-17, Rs 7,993 crore in 2017-18 and Rs 14,202 crore in 2018-19, according to information presented in Parliament.

The number of employees of BSNL stands at 165,179 and the total employees’ salary bill is 75 percent of the total income of the company.
