MTS India posts $71 mn net loss on $57 mn revenue in Q3, Capex $6 mn

Telecom service provider MTS India on Tuesday said its Q3 2014 revenue rose 20 percent to $56.5 million, while net loss reduced to $71 million from $123 million.

The company’s data strategy assisted MTS to improve revenue growth. Non-Voice revenues grew 14 percent. Non-voice revenues contribute 43 percent of total quarterly revenues. MTS India’s data card subscriber base for the quarter increased by 6.3 percent to 1.5 million subscribers.

MTS India’s HSD services now cover over 700 towns across 9 circles.

MTS India (Sistema Shyam Teleservices) said its ARPU increased 2 percent to $1.93 or INR 117.

MTS India, which has presence in 9 telecom circles, has invested $5.94 million towards Capex (capital spending) in the country.

Dmitry Shukov, chief executive officer of Sistema Shyam Teleservices, said: “To strengthen the data story in India, it is imperative that the government comes out with a clear roadmap on spectrum sharing and trading.”

The company said minutes of usage decreased by 3.7 percent to 401 during the quarter q-o-q due to seasonality.

MTS could not grow its mobile subscriber base in Q3 2014 as compared with the previous quarter.

SSTL’s mobile subscribers’ MoU for Q3 2014 declined to 401 minutes against 416 minutes in Q2 2014.  Non-voice revenues, from both data and mobile VAS, for the quarter increased 14 percent to INR 1,475 million.
