Sprint and Sierra Wireless to accelerate deployment of connected devices

Sprint announced its collaboration with
Sierra Wireless to help application developers, product manufacturers, and
machine-to-machine (M2M) service providers get new solutions up and running on
the Sprint network cost-effectively.

The two companies will co-market the Sierra
Wireless AirVantage M2M Cloud Platform. Sprint M2M partners and customers can use
the AirVantage cloud platform to develop, deploy, and manage all aspects of
their M2M applications, including the operation of the communications device
and connected products or machines.

AirVantage becomes part of Sierra Wireless‘ participation in the Sprint M2M Collaboration Center, which brings a wide range
of M2M knowledge and capabilities directly to innovators in a working laboratory
setting.

The AirVantage Platform includes:
Applications to manage M2M wireless communications devices and their attached
assets (such as components in machines, telemetric devices in automobiles, and
monitoring devices in a home or office). A powerful set of M2M application
development tools. An open M2M Cloud Services API (application programming
interface).

“Sierra Wireless’ AirVantage Platform
coupled with the recently launched Sprint Command Center Device Management
Platform, allows customers greater control for M2M device and service
management,” said Wayne Ward, vice president of Emerging Solutions Group,
Sprint.

Sprint is able to help its customers
realize a return on investment faster, by providing the M2M infrastructure,
application development and deployment features customers have to create on
their own today.

“For M2M to reach its potential and deliver
benefits to the maximum number of industries and organizations, it needs to be
simple to develop, deploy, and manage connected devices,” said Emmanuel
Walckenaer, senior vice president and general manager, Solutions and Services
for Sierra Wireless.

Sprint’s Open Development Initiative
simplifies the launch process with streamlined certification, and Sprint offers
flexible business models for branding, billing, and customer care.
