Symphonet taps Calix to roll-out broadband services in Malaysia

Telecom Lead Asia: Symphonet Sdh Bhd, Malaysian
communications service provider has tapped Calix for the roll-out of its new
high speed broadband networks in Kuala Lumpur and Johore Bahru.

To support these roll-outs, the service provider has
selected the Calix E7-2 Ethernet Service Access Platform (ESAP).

Symphonet will use point-to-point gigabit Ethernet
technology over fiber for these roll-outs. Symphonet will deploy the Calix
700GE family of optical network terminals (ONTs), including
the 716GE-I indoor and 766GX business and mobile
backhaul ONTs at each fiber-served premise.

The technology will allow the service provider to deliver
broadband services, including Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), on-demand
video, and broadband speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second (10 Gbps) to
businesses in the two cities.

“Consumer and business demand for advanced broadband
services is growing rapidly across Malaysia and the rest of Asia as
broadband-ready devices proliferate and content continues to move to the
cloud,” said Andy Lockhart, senior vice president of international sales
and marketing at Calix.

In order to deploy the solution, Calix is working with
network solutions reseller partner Palette Multimedia.

“Calix was able to demonstrate to us that their
solution will deliver on that vision cost-effectively and with a good return on
investment. The modular nature of the solution ideally fits our business model
in terms of building our subscriber base and we are delighted that this will be
a highly reliable, flexible, and manageable solution,” said  Dato’ Baharum
Salleh, CEO of Symphonet.
