Telecom operator revenue in India grew 19 percent to Rs 49,877 crore in Q2 2011-12

Revenue of telecom operators in India grew at 19 percent in Q2 2011-12 to Rs 49,877 crore from Rs 41,840 crore in Q2 2010-11.


 

The 15-20 percent increase in wireless tariff by many mobile operators has contributed to the significant growth in revenue. Moreover, wireless subscribers increased to 865.71 million in August 2011 from 670.60 million in August 2010.


 

Broadband subscription reached 12.69 million in August 2011 from 12.50 million in July 2011.



Total telephone users grew to 899.78 million from 706.37 million in August 2010. Active mobile subscribers on the date of peak VLR in August 2011 are 608.63 million, according to TRAI.


 

Bharti Airtel posted 10.4 percent increase in Q2 revenue at Rs 13,239 crore. BSNL reported Q2 revenue of Rs 9,040 crore, registering 36.57 percent increase from Rs 6,619 crore in Q2 2010-11.
