Telefonica Brasil net profit dips by 1.3%

fell 1.34 percent to 1.46 billion Brazilian reais ($848 million) in Q4 2011
from a year earlier due to higher operating costs.

 

Its revenue rose to BRL8.6 billion during the quarter
from BRL8.23 billion. For the whole of 2011, its revenue stood at BRL 33.17
billion against BRL 31.4 million in 2012.

 

Net income was BRL 1,462.3 million in the
quarter, registering a growth of 9.8 percent q-o-q. In the year, the combined
net income recorded BRL 5,072.4 million, with a growth of 18.2 percent over
2010.

 

For the whole of 2011, Telefonica Brasil’s profit rose to
BRL 5.07 billion from BRL 4.3 billion in 2010.

 

The company announced growth of 51.1 percent q-o-q and
75.1 percent y-o-y in net additions in the mobile segment, which
totaled 4.5 million net additions in the quarter. In 2011, growth of 31.7
percent in the y-o-y in net additions, coming to a total of 11.3 million new
accesses;


Mobile segment market share had a slight growth,
maintaining the leadership with 29.5 percent. Its market share in data segment
recorded at 43.4 percent.  In the postpaid segment we recorded market
share of 36.6 percent.

 

Mobile broadband segment accounted for almost one
half of the new market additions (47.6 percent) and accesses with data plans or
packages grew by 127 percent y-o-y, reaching 7.5 million accesses in
2011. Fixed broadband accesses moved up by 9.5 percent
y-o-y to 3.6 million accesses;

 

The company said that mobile Data and VAS
revenues have seen annual growth, recording a positive variation of 10.6
percent in 4Q11 and 40.8 percent in y-o-y.

 

The EBITDA recorded growth of 17.1 percent in
q-o-q and of 6.4 percent in y-o-y, reaching BRL12.03 billion in the
year, a growth of 6.4 percent over 2010.
