TRAI seeks explanation from Reliance Communications for stopping 2G service

Anil Ambani of Reliance CommunicationsTRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) has sought explanation from Reliance Communications for stopping 2G services across India.

TRAI in a direction dated November 1, 2017 asked Reliance Communications to ensure quality of services to its 2G subscribers.

This follows complaints from Reliance Communications’ 2G subscribers in select telecom circles. 2G users of Reliance Communications are not able to contact the customer care centers of the company due to closure.

Reliance Communications customers are facing difficulties in shifting their SIMs to other telecom operators through MNP (Mobile Number Portability).

TRAI asked Reliance Communications to furnish reasons for disruption of 2G services in different telecom circles.

TRAI said Reliance Communications must issue and communicate unique porting code to subscribers through SMS immediately, as and when such request is received and respond to all the requests of mobile number portability made by the subscribers as per provisions of the regulations.

Reliance Communications must furnish licensed service area wise details of the number porting requests received, details of unique porting codes generated on such requests and num ber of subscribers ported out in last two weeks.

Earlier, Reliance Communications said it would focus on 4G business as part of its long term strategy.
