Uninor celebrates 5 years, to continue cost effective mobile services

Indian telecom service provider Uninor today said it is celebrating five years of its presence in the country.

Uninor, which has more than 42 million customers and 6.5 percent revenue market share (RMS), survived in the Indian telecom market despite facing regulatory challenges including the Supreme Court order to roll back 2G services. Uninor has presence in 6 circles.

In the last five years, telecom operators including Bahrain Telecom exited from India due to lack of regulatory support. Telecom companies such as Aircel, MTS, Videocon, Uninor, etc. forced to reduce presence as well.

Uninor, as part of the 5th anniversary, is offering free Facebook and Whatsapp pack for 5 days to its mobile subscribers transacting at any of the 1500 Uninor owned retail outlets across its six circles. The offer will be applicable on any recharge or activation done by a subscriber. This offer will be available for a week starting December 1.

Uninor Gujarat expansion

“We will continue to offer Sabse Sasta (most affordable) and relevant voice and Internet services to them in the coming years too,” Upanga Dutta, chief marketing officer, Uninor.

Despite offering cost effective packages, Uninor is unable to become the top brand for Indian mobile users. Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular are the top three telecom operators based on their revenue and subscriber market share.

Uninor, which is focusing on its mobile Internet strategy, said its Internet subscribers grew by 70 percent and achieved Internet revenue growth by 103 percent.

In December 2013, Uninor became the fastest telecom operator to breakeven in its six operating circles. It continues to invest in network expansion and added 5000 new towers this year.
