Vodafone moves HC against 900 MHz spectrum auction

Telecom Lead India: Vodafone says it has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court challenging DoT’s action of putting its 900MHz spectrum to auction.

Vodafone says it applications for license extension are pending with DoT.

Vodafone is entitled to  a fair and reasonable extension of its license as per mutually agreeable terms. Both the policy and license provide for continuity and this action of DoT to arbitrarily withdraw the 900MHz spectrum is against the provisions of policy and license.

Vodafone has invested more than Rs 50,000 crore in India and remains committed to providing quality and affordable telecom solutions to its almost 150 million customers.

Vodafone says the 900MHz spectrum forms the foundation of the network and Vodafone has, over the last 18 years, designed and built its telecommunication networks/ infrastructure and operated their services by utilizing the above spectrum.

Using the spectrum allocated under license Vodafone is providing services to over 18.7 million subscribers.

According to Vodafone, it is a serious and a committed player in the Indian market and has invested thousands of crores in setting up its networks.

Vodafone believes that the extension of its license is expedient and as per license, it has to be on terms that are mutually agreed. As per Vodafone both the policy and license provide for continuity and this action of DoT to arbitrarily withdraw the 900MHz spectrum is not only against the provisions of policy and license but also disruptive and against public interest.
