Huawei leads broadband CPE market with 17 percent in 2014

Huawei is leading the global broadband CPE (customer premises equipment) market with 17 percent share in 2014, said Infonetics Research, now part of IHS.

ZTE is in the second position with 11 percent share in the global broadband CPE market. ARRIS has 11 percent share of the broadband CPE segment. Alcatel-Lucent and Technicolor have 7 percent each.

The broadband CPE market rose 9 percent to $10.5 billion in 2014 – driven by FTTH and DOCSIS 3.0 CPE. In Q4 2014, the growth of the worldwide broadband CPE revenue was flat at $2.7 billion.

The telecom research report noted that the race to deliver Gigabit services is on, particularly in North America and Western Europe.

“Service providers are making significant investments in new technologies that provide a marketing advantage in terms of speeds offered over competitors. The net result is continued growth in DOCSIS 3.0 and upcoming 3.1 devices for cable operators, and FTTH, VDSL and upcoming G.fast CPE for telecoms,” said Jeff Heynen, research director for broadband access and pay TV at Infonetics Research, now part of IHS.

FTTH CPE revenue rose 18 percent, while and DOCSIS 3.0 CPE revenue grew 3 percent.

GPON and DOCSIS 3.0 in North America; GPON in China, Europe, and Latin America; and VDSL in Europe were some of the growth drivers.

By 2019, DSL will make up a smaller share of broadband CPE revenue as telecoms add more FTTH services, and many operators are expected to forgo FTTH altogether and instead use LTE spectrum to deliver fixed LTE services.
