The total Wavelength Division Multiplexer or WDM market, comprising long haul and metro applications, grew 7 percent in 2014 to almost $9.5 billion.
“The majority of market growth for the year came from heightened demand in China where service providers are shifting from rolling out 40 Gbps wavelengths to 100 Gbps wavelengths. The global shipments of 100 Gbps wavelengths doubled in 2014, contributing nearly half the total market revenue for the year,” said Jimmy Yu, vice president of Optical Transport research at Dell’Oro Group.
