Indian telecom BTS market to reach 1.8 mn units by 2019: Research and Markets

The number of installed Base Transceiver Station (BTS) in India is projected to reach 1.8 million units by 2019, said Research and Markets.

Growth drivers for the Indian BTS market will be the expansion in subscriber base, growing use of mobile applications and social networking, coupled with growing FDI investments in the telecom sector. At present, India has around 900 million plus mobile subscribers.

Increasing need for faster data communication services are prompting telecom operators for deploying advanced equipment to enhance their data services.

Research and Markets has shared an old telecom statistics to support the growth in BTS.

The telecom report said that the adoption of 3G services have helped in increasing mobile data traffic in the recent years. 3G services in India have increased 196 percent during 2011-12, whereas mobile data traffic generated by 2G services increased around 66 percent over the same period.

Recently announced telecom tariff deductions by telecom majors such as Bharti Airtel and Vodafone have resulted in a significant surge in 3G data consumption.

The report said this trend is expected to continue during 2014-19, which would substantially increase the mobile data traffic in India in the coming years, consequently, driving the BTS market in the country, especially 3G and 4G based BTS.

Data traffic has increased in the recent past on account of increasing usage of social networking sites such as Skype, Facebook, etc., which has further added to load on the existing network infrastructure, said Research and Markets.
