Qualcomm, Apple, MediaTek grab 80% share in smartphone applications processor market

Qualcomm, Apple and MediaTek have grabbed 80 percent revenue share in the global smartphone applications processor market in the first quarter of 2014, said Strategy Analytics.

The global smartphone applications processor market rose 25 percent to $4.7 billion in Q1 2014, said Strategy Analytics’ Handset Component Technologies (HCT) service report called Smartphone Apps Processor Market Share Q1 2014.

Qualcomm, Apple, MediaTek, Samsung and Spreadtrum grabbed the top-five smartphone applications processor spots in Q1 2014.

The revenue market share of Qualcomm in the smartphone applications processor market is 53 percent, Apple with 16 percent and MediaTek with 13 percent.

“HiSilicon, Intel, MediaTek and NVIDIA posted triple-digit shipment growth while Apple, Marvell,  Qualcomm and Spreadtrum registered double-digit unit shipment growth,” said Sravan Kundojjala, senior analyst at Strategy Analytics.
