Reliance Jio captures 16.4% share in broadband market in Oct

Jio share in broadband market in October 2016Reliance Jio Infocomm, the latest mobile operator to enter India telecom market, has captured 3.3 percent share – mainly from Reliance Communications and Tata Teleservices – in October 2016, TRAI data indicates.

Businessman Mukesh Ambani-promoted Reliance Jio added 19632129 mobile subscribers, while Idea Cellular added 6337591, Bharti Airtel added 2326930, BSNL added 1187430 and Vodafone added 1179654 mobile users in October.

Tata Docomo lost 1352969 users, while Reliance Communications lost 992901 subscribers. MTS lost 258555 users.

TRAI says India’s mobile subscriber base increased from 1,049.74 million in September 2016 to 1,078.42 million in October 2016, registering a monthly growth rate of 2.73 percent.

The mobile subscription in urban areas increased to 621.77 million (+2.97 percent) in October 2016.

The mobile penetration in India increased to 84.34 in October 2016. The urban mobile penetration increased to 155.35 in October 2016. Rural mobile penetration increased to 51.98. The share of urban and rural wireless subscribers in total number of wireless subscribers was 57.66 percent and 42.34 percent respectively in October 2016.

Number of broadband subscribers increased to 218.42 million in October 2016 with a monthly growth rate of 13.59 percent.

Top five broadband service providers are Bharti Airtel with 48.17 million, Vodafone India 40.19 million, Reliance Jio 35.94 million, Idea Cellular 29.76 million and BSNL 21.46 million.

Top five wired broadband service providers are BSNL with 9.94 million, Bharti Airtel 1.95 million, Atria Convergence 1.12 million, MTNL 1.06 million and YOU Broadband 0.59 million.

Top five mobile internet service providers are Bharti Airtel with 46.22 million users, Vodafone 40.19 million, Reliance Jio 35.94 million, Idea Cellular 29.76 million and Reliance Communications 16.95 million, said TRAI.
