Top semiconductor companies in 2016Semiconductor revenue has reached $343.5 billion (+2.6 percent) in 2016 — fueled by increasing production in many electronic equipment segments, improving NAND flash memory pricing and relatively benign currency movements., according to Gartner.

“The semiconductor industry rebounded in 2016, with a weak start to the year, characterized by inventory correction, giving way to strengthening demand and an improving pricing environment in the second half,” said James F Hines, research director at Gartner.

Intel, which has achieved 4.6 percent growth in semiconductor revenue, retained its No. 1 position as the largest semiconductor manufacturer.

Samsung Electronics is the second largest semiconductor company with 11.7 percent market share last year.

Wireless chip major Qualcomm is in the third position. Qualcomm has improved its position from 4th rank to 3rd last year.

MediaTek has retained its 10 ranking in the global semiconductor market.

Broadcom has moved to 5th rank from 17, thanks to its M&A deal.

Last year witnessed deals such as Avago Technologies’ acquisition of Broadcom, On Semiconductor’s acquisition of Fairchild Semiconductor, and Western Digital’s acquisition of SanDisk.
