Cobham Wireless 5G testing solutions at MWC 2018

5G consumer demandsCobham Wireless announced that it will demonstrate its 5G test capabilities at Mobile World Congress (MWC 2018) in Barcelona, 26 February – 1 March.

Leading test and measurement companies such as Anritsu, Keysight Technologies and Rohde & Schwarz are also showing their 5G testing solutions at the world’s largest telecom event.

Cobham Wireless says that its 5G New Radio (NR) test solution can validate 5G NR air interface technologies, including Massive MIMO systems and Ultra-Reliability Low-Latency Communication (URLLC) use cases.

Engineers at network equipment manufactures and mobile operators are already using the software-defined system to test the performance of 5G NR networks against a variety of real-world test cases.

Cobham Wireless said its 5G NR test solution enables the validation of the gNodeB (gNB), the critical part of the new 5G radio access network (RAN), to ensure compliance with 3GPP 5G specifications.

The software defined radio (SDR) architecture of Cobham Wireless’ 5G test solution enables it to target different 5G NR numerologies with sub-carrier spacing of 30kHz, 60kHz and 120kHz.

Cobham Wireless recently worked with a network operator and vendor in China for testing its Massive MIMO solution to validate and showcase the 5G NR gNB reaching the downlink throughput of 4.5 Gbps.

Engineers can also use the test solution’s low-latency architecture for validating URLLC, one of the 5G use cases to connect critical IoT devices and systems, including healthcare, VR and AR, automotive applications and smart city infrastructures.

The 5G test solution validates its customer’s URLLC air interface design achieving 1ms end-to-end latency with a reliability rate of 99.99 percent.

“Test cases can be easily replicated and scaled due to the software-defined nature of the test solution, allowing for rapid refinement of 5G NR technology. The solution validates 5G from the RAN through to the Core technologies” said Li-Ke Huang, 5G Research and Technology Director at Cobham Wireless.
