Samsung retains smartphone lead with 24.6% share in Q2 2015

Samsung continues to lead the Indian smartphone market with 24.6 percent share in Q2 2015, said CMR’s India Mobile Handsets Market Review.

Micromax is still in the second position with 14.8 percent share of the Indian smartphone market, while Intex has 10.4 percent share to take the third position.

Device vendors shipped 24.41 million smartphones and 32.18 million feature phones in the second quarter.

During the April-June quarter of 2015, smartphones accounted for 43.1 percent of mobile phones shipped against 36.8 percent in the previous quarter. Smartphones are expected to notch up half of total mobile phone shipments by September 2015.

India smartphone share in Q2 2015

Device makers shipped 56.6 million handsets – smartphone and feature phones — during the April-June quarter. 43 percent accounts for smartphones. While the overall market rose 7 percent quarter-on-quarter, while smartphones grew 24.8 percent.

Samsung has 20.6 percent share of overall mobile handsets shipped, Micromax and Intex are the second and third largest players in mobile phones as well as in the smartphone category.

24.8 percent handsets were manufactured and/or assembled in India in Q2 2015 compared to 19.9 percent in Q1 2015.
The contribution of Chinese brands grew 97 percent year on year in Q2 2015 against 48 percent for Indian brands within the smartphones segment.
