Airtel leads 3G and 4G internet speed test, TRAI reveals

The latest statistics from TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) has revealed that Bharti Airtel tops the 4G and 3G speed test, ahead of Reliance Jio.

Airtel clocked average 4G download speed of 8.4 Mbps in India, according to data available on 22 December at around 11 am.

On the other hand, Reliance Jio achieved 8.1 Mbps download speed on its 4G network across the country.

Vodafone (7.3 Mbps), Idea Cellular (6.8 Mbps) and Reliance Communications (5.8 Mbps) are in the next positions in terms of average 4G download speed.

TRAI said the speed test results represent the average of the data speed samples collected from various mobile consumers of the telecom operators on a crowd sourcing basis during speed test initiated by them.

This is a dynamic report and can change the average speed in near real time based on the speed test conducted by mobile Internet users and captured by the mobile app. For instance, at around 8 pm on 22 December, the average speed at Jio network was 8.6 Mbps against Airtel’s 8.3 Mbps.

In terms of 4G upload speed, Vodafone tops the list with 4 Mbps Internet speed on its 4G network. Idea Cellular (3.9 Mbps), Bharti Airtel (3.3 Mbps), Jio (2.5 Mbps) and Reliance Communications (2 Mbps) are in the next positions.

TRAI’s mobile app has also revealed the 3G speeds in India.

Bharti Airtel is clocking 3.8 Mbps download speed on 3G network. Vodafone India is in the second position with 3.1 Mbps download Internet speed. Idea Cellular (2.7 Mbps), Cellone (2.3 Mbps), Reliance Communications (1.7 Mbps) and MTNL (1.2 Mbps) are in the next positions in terms of 3G speed.

In 3G upload speed, Airtel is leading with 1.3 Mbps on its 3G network. Vodafone is in the second rank with 1.1 Mbps on 3G. Idea Cellular (1 Mbps), Cellone (0.8 Mbps), Aircel (0.8 Mbps), Reliance Communications (0.6 Mbps) and MTNL (0.3 Mbps) are the other top telecom operators in 3G upload speed.
