Tekelec @ Mobile World Congress 2013

Telecom Lead @ Mobile World Congress 2013: Tekelec has shared its roadmap for ThinkingNetworks – a software-defined networks.

The foundation of ThinkingNetworks is an intelligent, virtualized control layer through which operators can create elastic network streams for over-the-top (OTT), cloud, machine-to-machine (M2M) and best-effort services.

Tekelec CTO Doug Suriano said: “We know, for instance, that our customers want to provide policy, charging and identity as cloud-based services. They also want an environment in which they can create unlimited options for partnerships and services with OTT application providers, mobile advertisers, and M2M and cloud service providers.”

“Software-defined networks present one of the most exciting and transformative opportunities in the history of telecoms for service providers to re-engineer how they deliver services,” said Graham Finnie, chief analyst at Heavy Reading.

Meanwhile, Tekelec is expanding its Policy Everywhere partner ecosystem to help mobile operators deliver a superior subscriber experience.

Tekelec now has three partners to deliver on its “Policy Everywhere” vision.

Last year, Tekelec announced interoperability with Roke and was able to demonstrate advanced used cases addressing application based offload and network quality assessment.

With the addition of Greenpacket and Smith Micro, Tekelec is building an ecosystem of partners to enable standards-compliant solutions, which extend policy control to the mobile device and enable a range of new revenue opportunities for service providers.

At Mobile World Congress , Tekelec is showcasing Policy-on-the-Mobile capabilities directed by its Mobile Policy Gateway.
