Novatel Wireless enters insurance telematics market

Novatel Wireless announced that Enfora, a Novatel
Wireless company, is launching the Spider MT 3000, a certified dual-band
integrated device designed for passenger cars, service vans and light duty
trucks. This new platform is purpose-built for the Usage Based Insurance (UBI),
telematics, and fleet management markets.

Due to heightened consumer awareness, growing driver
safety initiatives, and need for more timely and relevant vehicle intelligence,
driver behavior telematics solutions are experiencing increased momentum for
both the consumer and fleet management markets,” said Rob Hadley, CMO of Novatel Wireless.

The Spider MT 3000 solution is a great complement to our
expanding Spider MT family of products and is built with focus on ease-of-use
and plug-and-play capabilities,” Hadley added.

The Spider MT 3000 is
a plug-and-play device with internal antennas and On-Board Diagnostics (OBDII).
It supports a host of vehicle engine OBDII permitted protocols while providing
customizable Spider MT features including GPS location, ignition, geo-fencing,
trip reporting and events. It also has built-in threshold events to capture
metrics critical to effective fleet and insurance monitoring such as excessive
engine speed, rapid acceleration, harsh braking, speed violations, and
excessive idling.

The Spider MT 3000 solution can be coupled with Enfora’s
robust N4A Communications and Management platform and be monitored and
reconfigured remotely — almost anywhere in the world.

The Spider MT 3000 is commercially available in North
America. A dual band Spider MT 3000 solution will available globally in Q3
2011.
